For most of my time surfing eBay, I am interested in mobile phones with crashed/broken screens. They are usually really cheap, so I buy a phone and a new screen also from eBay at the same time. Recently I got LG Shine KE970 that I repaired replacing the broken screen, then sold it and also got HTC Shadow 2007 version with totally non-working screen. I have searched eBay for screens, but almost all auctions offered screen for 35-36USD then, so I waited till I found a screen from China manufacturer for 14.5USD.
After replacing the screen I turned it on and the phone asked me for special unlock code, which I did not know. Asking Google helped me with many unlock offers for money, but I found software and instructions how to get the unlock code using special software, that can be downloaded here. Here are the instructions:
1. Unlock the protection of the HTC Shadow by running “SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe” on your phone if not done so already!
2. Copy ” bkondisk.exe” onto your device or your SD card.
3. Run “bkondisk.exe” and wait, you will not see any progress bar or something like that.
4. Some image files will be created on your “My Device” or phone root folder around 50Mb-70Mb, this will take a while, around 3-5 minutes.
5. Look for “BK_02_0005.img” between all of these img files and copy it onto your PC.
6. Open “HxD.exe” a hex editor that is included in the zip file.
7. Open the file “BK_02_0005.img” with “HxD” program and scroll down to the lines “000400F0″ and “00040100″ (like in the picture “Capturer.JPG” that is included in the rar file).
8. The eight-character code is your Unlock code, all eight numbers will be in line “000400F0″ or in line “00040100″ or some in either of the two, but it is eight numbers long.
9. Turn off your phone and insert other carrier’s sim card and turn phone back on. After loading a message will appear and state that the network is locked and to input the unlock code.
10. Input the eight digit unlock code you got and enjoy your Sim unlocked Shadow.

If you can’t find the file “BK_02_0005.img” in your documents or root folder, make sure to unhide hidden files to see them! (Folder options menu).

Later I have updated the firmware to Windows Mobile 6.1 using Erofich ROM. Now my screen looks like this:

All information how to update the firmware can be found here. It has RSS reader, weather applet and many more. I have also installed Skype and sMath Studio Handheld. This software is very powerful math software, it can draw 2D or 3D plots, has all needed functions, matrix operations, almost a copy of MathCad and it is also able to open xmcd files.
